City launches tree dashboard and expands public tree data collection

City Arborist Chris Delk told the Environmental Stewardship Committee that the city's new tree dashboard is now live and will show where trees are planted, permit activity, heritage nominations and a running total of proposed mitigation payments. "The dashboard now is live for trees," Delk said, adding that the platform will eventually include close-up photos and mitigation payment tallies.
Committee members asked staff to prepare a brief public-facing tutorial and to round or flag estimated figures in the semiannual report. Delk said his office is expanding data collection to include all public trees — park and right-of-way trees — and will seek historical records from department supervisors to build a monthly summary. "Basically, we're gonna have this awesome dashboard that shows everything we can from permits to harvest letters," he said. The committee asked staff to mark estimates clearly on slides and to prepare a 3-slide public summary for the August Commission presentation.
