Board hears regional road update; supervisors cite start of I-76 widening and increased incidents near Turnpike ramps

During Board comments at the June 4 workshop, Vice-chair Bill Jenaway said Jacob Engineering and PennDOT informed the township that the Interstate 76 widening project is in final planning and that Upper Merion will be part of phase two, with construction slated to begin toward the end of 2028. Jenaway said the roadway will be reconstructed with 12-foot lanes in three sections and a four-foot buffer.
Jenaway also said that Chief Johnson and township staff reported roughly 20 incidents requiring fire and emergency medical services at ramp areas near where toll booths were removed, concentrated at the ramp near Village Drive where the Turnpike and PennDOT infrastructure intersect. Jenaway noted the Weadley Road bridge replacement remains on schedule and that the Gypsy Road bridge project will follow.
