Pomona Park town staff presented a proposed FFY 2025 Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application totaling $1,619,450 that would fund major upgrades to the town’s approximately 30-year-old fire-protection system. Jeffrey Winters, representing town staff, said the application is in the Neighborhood Revitalization category and that fire-related work would constitute $1,262,700 of the request and is designed to provide greater system capacity, redundancy and long-term reliability.
Winters outlined that the fire portion of the proposal includes a 30,000-gallon ground storage tank, a 2,000-gallon hydrotank, a 50-horsepower high-service pump, a 100 kW generator, and associated yard piping and electrical services. He noted equipment sizing is preliminary and will be finalized during design. The application budget breaks out Administration ($129,550) and Engineering ($227,200) in addition to the fire improvements. Town staff stated the fire project is intended to deliver more than 51% low- and moderate-income (LMI) benefit, a threshold used in CDBG funding categories.
The hearing provided the public an opportunity to comment before the Town proceeds with the application to FloridaCommerce; staff did not provide a timeline for FloridaCommerce’s review or decision during the hearing. The public-comment period on the application was opened and closed at the hearing.
