CDD attorney advises against allowing hunting or trapping on Port LaBelle property over liability concerns

General Manager Judi Kennington-Korf reported that a resident had requested permission to install game cameras, post signage every 500 feet on public property and to trap or hunt hogs on CDD property to address illegal hunting and nuisance hogs. Attorney Amy Thibaut advised the Board against allowing hunting or trapping on CDD property, saying the greenbelts are open to the public for activities such as bird watching, hiking and walking and that "the district could be held liable for person/property getting injured or damaged."
Thibaut told the Board that, because of the public-access nature of the greenbelts and potential liability exposure, residents should report suspicious activity to the sheriff's office rather than rely on third-party hunting or trapping on District lands. The Board did not authorize hunting or trapping on CDD property.
