Owensville lets administrator deny street closures for small events

During the City Administrator's report the Board discussed recurring issues with street closures for small pop-up events on First Street and their impact on nearby businesses. Alderman Breeden suggested using park space for events with fewer than 100 attendees; on motion by Alderman Breeden, seconded by Alderman Bohl, the Board voted to authorize the City Administrator to decline requests for street closures for events expected to draw fewer than 100 people, to be decided case-by-case by the administrator.
The policy takes effect for future events and will be applied after currently planned events. The administrator will evaluate event size and impacts before approving or denying street closures, and the Board asked that event organizers be informed of the preference for park venues for smaller gatherings.
