Advisory members urge clearer strategy for Main Street connectivity and public gathering spaces

"Our streets and the right of ways themselves are public spaces," a committee member said, arguing they should be designed to advance public-space goals and link Main Street to parks and neighborhoods. Members recommended features such as bulb-outs, seating, varied lighting and plantings to improve connectivity and encourage people to linger.
The committee discussed coordinating private businesses with public spaces and acknowledged that some gathering places emerge informally around restaurants and small businesses. Members agreed these informal "third places" should be recognized alongside formal public spaces in the plan and that the plan's chapters should define how streetscape improvements and public-private interactions will be encouraged.
The discussion did not produce a formal vote; staff were asked to incorporate these ideas into chapter descriptions and future public-engagement materials.
