Owensville board approves minutes and weighs options after $7,850 impound storage bill

The Owensville Board of Aldermen approved the consent agenda and minutes for March 3 and March 10 at its March 17, 2025 meeting, Mayor Kevin McFadden said the session began at 7:00 p.m. on a motion by Alderman Kramme with a second from Alderman Bohl. The motion carried without dissent.
City Marshal Scott Griffith reported 92 total cases in February 2025 with 67 matters handled through municipal court, and told the board the department had "received a bill for storage of a vehicle for 153 days ... for $7,850." He said body cameras were now in service and that tasers would be deployed the following week. Griffith said the department needs secure evidence storage and presented several options: using city-owned buildings such as the Blue Park building or the old ambulance building, or building a fenced lot behind the Police Department. He said towing expenses would remain with the department and that staff would check whether MIRMA insurance would cover impound storage costs and whether an ordinance might permit the city to recover impound fees from the courts.
The board directed staff to investigate physical storage options and insurance coverage; the police department will also look into a fenced storage lot behind the station. No formal ordinance or fee change was adopted at the meeting.
