Council approves Midcoast comment to CPUC urging stronger wireless service-quality rules

Nicholas Calderon briefed the council on a pending California Public Utilities Commission rulemaking about whether wireless carriers should be held to the same service-quality standards as wireline providers. Calderon said the proceeding proposes a 24-hour restoration target for service outages and that the county plans to ask the CPUC to reduce exemptions in General Order 133.
The council moved and unanimously approved submission of a comment letter aligned with Calderons recommendations and he told the council he will present similar arguments at the CPUC hearing. "The outcome of the rulemaking process has big impacts on how telecommunication companies have to manage their assets," Calderon said. The council asked staff to file the letter through the CPUC comment portal before the public-comment deadline.
