Board sets public hearing to reaffirm data‑center moratorium after procedural review

After reviewing the statute and conferring with the county attorney, staff recommended that a public hearing should have been held as part of finalizing the data‑center moratorium adopted earlier by the board. The board set a public hearing for Aug. 18 at close to 10 a.m. to hear testimony and to reaffirm the previously approved moratorium ordinance.
Kelly Schroeder explained she had dug into the statute while preparing final publishing steps and "came to the realization that we likely needed a public hearing"; the board then moved and seconded a motion to set the hearing and approved it by roll call.
The motion was procedural: the hearing is intended to ensure the county follows the statute’s procedural requirements and to give an additional opportunity for public testimony before the county reaffirms the ordinance.
