Planning & Development Director Mr. Lear briefed the board on the South Peninsula Drive Sidewalk Project, which would widen the existing pathway inside Town limits and reconstruct it as an eight‑foot sidewalk designed to accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists. He outlined anticipated milestones including public meetings, board/council briefings, and preparation of a construction bid package; staff projected construction to start in March 2027 and finish in October 2027.
During public comment, nearby residents voiced concerns. Don Bramlage (4754 South Peninsula Drive) said he feared damage to landscaping and nearby home integrity; Robert Bullard (4802 South Peninsula Drive) questioned right‑of‑way delineations and urged the Town to pause the project until an updated survey is completed; Michael Lang (4366 South Atlantic Avenue) sought clarification on the project manager and cost; Nick Amos (4718 South Peninsula Drive) raised concerns about drainage, tree canopy impacts, and traffic hazards; and Mark Oebbecke (4758 South Peninsula Drive) questioned the project purpose and urged re‑evaluation of funding.
Chair Cox closed public participation noting no Board action was required at this time and encouraged residents to continue providing feedback and to attend upcoming project meetings. Staff indicated outreach and additional technical work (including coordination on right‑of‑way and drainage) before any construction contract is pursued.
