Port LaBelle accepts 121.58-mile road inventory and authorizes $850,000 road-improvement bidding

District Engineer Tommy Perry presented the board with a road mileage report showing a total of 121.58 road miles in the district. "There are a total of 121.58 road miles," the engineer reported; the breakdown included 64.31 miles in units 1–9, 39.39 miles in units 10–13, 16.16 miles in unit 102 and 1.72 miles in the Ranchettes. After questions about road miles versus lane miles, the board accepted the mileage report as presented.
Staff reminded the board that at the final budget hearing the district approved approximately $850,000 for the annual road improvement bid to address roughly 5.3 miles of roadway. The board authorized advertising the 2024–25 road-improvement bid and gave the general manager authority to award the contract to the lowest qualified bidder; the board will ratify any award at a subsequent meeting. Residents asked clarifying questions about county versus district road markings and responsibility; resident Brent Stevens noted that county roads have blue signage and painted stripes while district roads typically use green signage and no stripes.
