Code Compliance Manager Hooker presented the department’s year‑end statistics at the Jan. 27 meeting, saying the number of enforcement cases continued to rise in 2024 while the overall compliance rate remained high at 95.8 percent.
Hooker said that 'since the $250 administrative fee has been established, people have been complying,' and he reported that staff had identified about 40 new rental properties. He also reported 11 properties with outstanding liens amounting to $241,425. The board discussed options for handling long‑term rental enforcement and the town’s consideration of moving from a Code Enforcement Board to a Special Magistrate; Attorney Smith said existing board orders would remain in effect if a Special Magistrate is adopted.
