Owensville to transfer fire trucks for $1 if PROP FIRE passes; board takes neutral stance

The Owensville Board of Aldermen voted March 24 to authorize a conditional transfer of the city's fire trucks and related equipment to a fire district if voters approve PROP FIRE on April 8, 2025. Mayor Kevin McFadden told the board the City will remain neutral on the ballot measure while continuing to prepare for an orderly transition if the measure passes.
Under the motion, the city would sell each apparatus for $1.00 to the receiving fire district, with exceptions for vehicles still subject to lease-purchase loans until liens are satisfied. Alderman Dan Breeden moved the measure and Alderman Cathy Lahmeyer seconded; the motion "carried without dissent," according to the meeting record. The City Administrator said transition timing between parties would be handled as needed if the proposition passes.
