Treasurer outlines LED streetlight test that could save about $400 per month

Treasurer Leslie Cummings told the council she has begun a test conversion to LED on Buckhannon Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue to measure lighting levels and operating costs. "I have started a process of changing a light on Buckhannon Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue to LED to see if the wattages will be ample," Cummings said, and summarized estimated savings of $4.43 per month for converting a 200-watt fixture to a 130-watt LED and $2.93 per month for converting a 100-watt fixture to a 50-watt LED.
Cummings said the town currently has 126 100-watt lights and 8 200-watt lights; using the two selected LED swaps could yield roughly $400 in monthly savings while the town assesses whether the lower-wattage LEDs provide sufficient light. The treasurer said supervisors will meet again next month to consider additional cost-saving ideas and rollout steps.
