Town awarded construction grant for Halfway Brook culvert; town share about $150,000

The board reported that the town received a construction grant for the Halfway Brook culvert and related McKeague Road work. The Chair said the construction grant covers roughly $600,000 of work and the town will be responsible for approximately $150,000 of that total. "Rita was finally successful in getting us a construction grant... we're gonna be on the hook for roughly 150,000 of it, 600,000 will get in the grant," the Chair said.
A pre-construction meeting was held and river management authorized the contractor to begin work before July 1; the contractor will drop a culvert in and build a temporary road around the site. Contractors raised concerns about the condition of an existing bridge used for access; town highway staff inspected the bridge and determined it appears the same as during the prior VTrans inspection and recommended no immediate repairs. The board expects most site activity to occur in the next fiscal year, with preliminary tasks completed in July.
