The Selectboard reviewed the preferred alternative for West Street sidewalk scoping and asked staff to investigate a possible angled southern crosswalk while considering an existing storm drain at that location.
Planning & Zoning Administrator AZ Larsen and consultant Evan Haugh said the center section of the project would retain existing sidewalk and repair sections that do not meet standards, and that the board has authority to adjust driveway entrances. The plan calls for removing one end of a U-shaped driveway to improve safety and alignment with VTrans and Town requirements. The board discussed whether to provide angled or straight-in parking for three spaces serving the Post Office; staff noted VTrans prefers angled parking.
Ian Albinson suggested adding a sidewalk from the project to the accessible entrance at Holley Hall; staff said that addition cannot be included in the funded portion of the current project. Staff will continue design work and investigate the angled crosswalk and storm-drain constraints.
