Emergency manager outlines storm damage inventory and FEMA prep

Brandon Roberts, Brown County’s emergency manager, told the commission the office has been cataloging storm damage and taking geotagged photos so that, if the county receives a disaster declaration, an RS evaluation team can be shown affected sites quickly. “We—re just kinda making notes so we—re ready when, if this does get declared, they—ll send an RS team up here, and we—ll have to take them around and show them some of the stuff,” Roberts said.
Roberts described several washouts and culvert failures after a three-inch rain event and said crews are prioritizing undermined travel lanes. He proposed creating an emergency-management Facebook page to share weather advisories and county updates; commissioners asked staff to pilot the page and to provide access to a staff administrator. Roberts also flagged communications needs, including 800 MHz radios (he estimated a new mobile unit at about $4,500) and short-term use of local contractors to accelerate cleanup while documenting storm-related invoices for potential reimbursement.
