Hammond Engineering summarized seven bids for the Ellen Ware Road culvert replacement and recommended awarding the work to LEWCO, LLC of Springfield, Vermont based on prior experience and price. The Selectboard voted unanimously to accept the LEWCO bid at a base price of $146,000 and authorized Chair Mike DeSocio to sign the contract, subject to securing any required easements and the bidder’s agreement to meet FEMA contractual requirements.
Everette Hammond of Hammond Engineering also recommended including a five percent contingency (approximately $7,300) to cover unexpected conditions during construction, such as encountering more ledge than anticipated. The board signed the contract extensions covering services to date and noted that additional agreements will be needed for any new work beyond the extensions already executed.
