Parks board recommends Chamberlain Path expansion to Village Council

The Village of Three Oaks Parks and Recreation Board voted on July 7, 2025 to recommend the Chamberlain Path Project concept to the Village Council so the proposal can proceed through the required approval processes. The motion was made by Larry Shawver, supported by Mike Springer and approved by the board.
Board Chair Ira Johnson reported that clarifications requested at the Parks and Recreation Board's June 25, 2025 special meeting should be considered as the project moves forward. The board's action was framed as a recommendation to the Village Council rather than final approval, meaning the Village Council will review the concept in a later proceeding.
During discussion the board also noted volunteer maintenance work in the area. Jim Dykas, speaking as a member of the public, said he had received a request from Changemaker Studio's that volunteer hours devoted to the Rain Garden and Chamberlain Path work be tracked so that those hours can be cited in future funding requests. The board did not set a volunteer-tracking requirement but recorded the request for consideration as part of project planning.
Next steps: the board recommended the concept to the Village Council and the project will move on to the next procedural stages for review and formal action by the council.
