Sanitary survey flags cross-connection work and emergency chlorination requirement for Three Oaks water system

Joe Fender, speaking to the committee, said the village received its Sanitary Survey results and is addressing listed deficiencies. "We got our Sanitary Survey results. There are a few deficiencies listed. Most of these were handled prior to getting these results. Others are being addressed," Fender said. He reported the water tower was inspected on July 1, 2025 (last inspected in 2017) and that documentation will be submitted to EGLE in about 4–6 weeks.
Fender said EGLE wants the village to begin residential cross-connection inspections and to establish an emergency chlorination setup that meets regulations and is equipped with a flow meter. "The big part is, EGLE wants us to start doing residential cross connections. That will be tough, because that means trying to get into people’s houses," Fender said. He noted that bacteria tests have been clear for three months and said staff will solicit bids for a chlorination system and finalize inspection plans.
