The Town of Nutter Fort Council discussed proposed changes to Ordinance 777, which governs property-maintenance inspections and violations. Code Enforcement Officer Roger Keith urged clarifying language to require that a HUD inspection relied on in lieu of a Town of Nutter Fort inspection must have occurred within the previous 30 days to be valid, and recommended that the ordinance set a 30-day deadline for repairs after a notice of violation. No formal action was taken; staff will draft revised language and present it at a future meeting.
Councilors also noted that the town incorporated the West Virginia Property Maintenance Standards into its codified ordinances in 2018 and that the current ordinance contains an antiquated reference (1511.01) regarding smoke detectors; minutes say council staff will add language to supersede the obsolete section. The council did not vote on these draft changes during the Aug. 13 meeting.
