Town approves Pond Village banner project pending insurance review

Colleen, a volunteer with the Brookfield Community Partnership, proposed a Pond Village banner project to place double-sided vinyl banners on light poles to mark the U.S. 250th anniversary and local celebrations. She said she applied for a $1,000 BCP grant and expected a decision by June 15; if the grant is not awarded, families and local businesses have offered to sponsor individual banners.

Colleen said the banner itself is about $40 (front and back) and that pole attachments cost roughly $200, so she asked the board to support a $300 budget per banner while she confirms final equipment pricing. She said Josh has volunteered and is OSHA certified to install the banners and suggested possible support from the fire department for maintenance and removal.

Chair (speaker 2) said the town must be the applicant on Green Mountain Power's form and proposed approving the application "pending review and approval by the League of Cities and Towns so that our insurance provider can take a quick look." Colleen volunteered to submit the application and the board agreed one town signature would likely suffice; the motion carried on a voice vote.

The board asked Colleen to share the application materials with town staff after submission and to coordinate any required inspections or adjustments with Green Mountain Power. The board also noted practical matters such as spacing of poles, seasonal installation limits and maintenance arrangements.

Next step: the town will wait for the League of Cities and Towns to confirm there are no insurance concerns before final submission; Colleen will notify the board after she submits the application.
