Selectboard backs preferred West Street sidewalk alternative, asks VHB for final plans

Madison Coombs and Evan Hough of engineering firm VHB presented the Selectboard with an updated preferred alternative for the West Street sidewalk scoping study. The board indicated a preference for retaining the existing western crosswalk location, removing trees where needed, and adding a sidewalk segment to close a connectivity gap. The consultants pointed to angled parking near the Post Office as a safer configuration and outlined a possible second phase to convert north-side parking to angled stalls, which would widen the buffer adjacent to the gas station area.
The presentation covered Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility considerations and site-specific concerns. AZ Larsen (Planning and Zoning Administrator) reported that the town has reached out to the gas station owner but has not yet received a response. The board asked VHB to follow up with resident Eric Cota on his stated concerns and directed VHB to produce final plans that incorporate the board’s feedback for a future approval step.
