Brookfield Select Board approves McKeague Road mitigation contract with Avery Excavating

The Brookfield Select Board voted to execute a mitigation contract for McKeague Road with Avery Excavating, clearing the final local step so the contractor can begin shop drawing reviews and site work. "I will make a motion to execute the McKague Road mitigation contract," one board member said when placing the item before the board, and the motion carried after being seconded and a voice vote.

Board members said the town had addressed state comments and, because FEMA staff were furloughed, had received no objections to moving forward. Chair John Benson asked that design transmittals be copied to Vicky so the town has a record if the contractor does not receive a response. He also directed that shop drawing review material be sent to Mike Hildebrand for review and that arrangements be made for witnessing signatures so the contractor did not need to travel to town.

Board members discussed coordination steps the contractor must take before work begins, including a pre-construction meeting with the state stream alteration engineer and dewatering plans. Carol, the town staff member assigned to witness signatures, was asked to make and keep a copy of the fully executed contract and to notify the contractor when to proceed. The vote to execute the contract was recorded by voice and the motion carried.
