Apache Junction council approves consent agenda, continues Banyan Apartments rezoning to Sept. 15

The Apache Junction City Council unanimously approved the consent agenda during its July 21 meeting and moved to continue the Banyan Apartments rezoning case, PD-26-4-PZ, to a formal public hearing on Sept. 15, 2026 and a council work session on Aug. 31, 2026.
Principal Planner Nick Leftwich summarized the applicant's request and explained the Planning and Zoning Commission had forwarded a recommendation of denial after a prior hearing. Leftwich said the applicant requested more time to revise plans and hold an additional neighborhood meeting. After the council opened the public hearing and saw no speakers, a councilmember moved to continue the case; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call. Mayor Wilson announced the continuance date following the vote.
The continuance preserves the council's ability to consider revised plans after additional community engagement. The council did not take a final action on the rezoning tonight; the matter will return to the public docket on Sept. 15, 2026.
