Commission reports 65 trees planted along Addison and Wolf after volunteer events

The Tree Preservation Commission said community volunteers and partner organizations planted dozens of trees this spring as part of several neighborhood outreach events. Commission members reported that more than 35 Rotary Club volunteers helped plant a total of 65 trees along Addison and Wolf on April 25, and a joint event with Openlands, Treekeepers and the Leyden High School Ecology Club on May 9 resulted in 20 additional trees planted.
Commission and Bee Board outreach efforts also distributed hundreds of plants and generated resident interest in planting: the Library Summer Kickoff gave away over 160 free plants and yielded 11 resident sign-ups for tree planting, and Railroad Daze handed out more than 300 plants and recorded six sign-ups. The commission said Ecology Club students and Openlands volunteers canvassed neighborhoods, knocking on doors to encourage sign-ups and participation.
Commission members said the volunteer-driven plantings aim to expand canopy cover in residential corridors and near schools. The events involved multiple partners including Openlands, Treekeepers, the Rotary Club and Leyden High School Ecology Club; D & R Printing provided design support for outreach materials.
