The Charleston Planning Commission began work on the 2026 Town Plan at its Dec. 9 meeting. Chair John Kellogg reviewed that state law requires the town to update the plan every eight years and that the update must address 12 mandatory subject areas; the state has signaled a particular focus on affordable housing during this cycle.
Kellogg asked commission members with expertise or interest in any of the required subject areas to volunteer to help with drafting. The commission set a target that the draft must be completed and approved by NVDA by December 2026; specific drafting assignments and timelines will be developed by volunteers and staff in the months ahead.
