Lewis family asks Audubon County to offer Edwards Park land back; county seeks legal review

Members of the Lewis family (Steve and Mary Kay Lewis) presented an informational handout about Edwards Park, recounting the park's history, stated purpose in the will of Abner Edwards, stipulations tied to park use, current maintenance concerns and the family's long-term role in upkeep. They told the board the park is not being used as intended and asked the county to offer the land back to the family.
Conservation Director Bruce Haag told supervisors the Conservation Board advised letting the parcel grow as natural habitat and noted it remains used for public hunting. The board directed Haag to search historical records and minutes for documentation; Attorney Chris Swensen was asked to review what legal options exist regarding title and any reversion clauses. The board agreed to schedule a follow-up meeting after the Conservation Board completes its record review.
