Nicholas County screening committee reviews superintendent applications in closed session; reports no public action

The Nicholas County Board of Education Superintendent Screening Committee met April 27, 2026, and entered an executive session to review superintendent applications under state statute. Chair Mallory Harmon called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.; Amy Tobin moved to approve entry into executive session, and Nikki Orazen seconded the motion.

The committee invoked KRS 61.810(1)(f) to allow a closed deliberation "to discuss personnel matters that could lead to the appointment of an employee," according to the agenda and chair remarks. The committee exited executive session at 7:45 p.m. and "acknowledge[d] no action was taken during Executive session," a motion offered by Amy Tobin and seconded by Nikki Orazen that the committee approved unanimously. The committee did not publicly name candidates or take any appointive action during the meeting.

The formal motions and votes were recorded in the open session minutes: a motion by Amy Tobin, seconded by Kayla Underwood, approved the April 21 minutes unanimously; a later motion by Tobin, seconded by Nikki Orazen, approved entering executive session at 6:02 p.m.; and an identical mover and seconder approved exiting the closed session at 7:45 p.m. Tim Abrams, the KSBA consultant present, announced the committee will reconvene to continue application review on May 7, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at the Nicholas County Schools Board of Education Office.
