The Oak Bluffs Select Board on July 14 reappointed Gail Barmakian as its representative to the Copeland Plan review committee for a one-year term and approved two full- and per-diem EMT appointments.
Select Person Sean DeBettencourt moved to reappoint Gail Barmakian; the motion was seconded by Select Person Emma Green-Beach and carried on a 5-0 roll-call vote. DeBettencourt also moved to appoint Emma Mayhew as a full-time EMT "subject to the terms and conditions of the IAFF Collective Bargaining Agreement and successful completion of the probationary period," a motion that passed 5-0. The board likewise approved the per-diem appointment of Em Kraak contingent on meeting provisional EMT requirements.
Board members framed the votes as routine personnel business that maintains emergency response capacity on the island. Chair Dion Alley opened the meeting with brief community announcements and thanked emergency personnel for their response to a recent tragic accident, a remark echoed by multiple members as context for the board's personnel actions. The Fire Department and EMS personnel left the meeting after the appointments were completed.
