Whitpain wins $1M+ federal grant for Mermaid Park Connector pedestrian trail

Township Manager Eric Traub told the Board the township received over $1 million in federal Transportation Alternatives Set‑Aside (TASA) funds for the Mermaid Park Connector Pedestrian Trail project aimed at improving pedestrian connectivity around Mermaid Park.
The project scope includes new sidewalks, multiuse trail links, crosswalks and safety features to connect neighborhoods, existing trails and destinations. Traub said engineering work is expected to begin later in 2026 and construction is anticipated in 2027, subject to PennDOT requirements and standard federal grant conditions. Township staff said they will provide periodic project updates as the engineering and permitting process advances.
