Montrose council approves three fire hires, accepts FEMA grant and authorizes SCBA loan payoff; firefighter terminated

The Montrose Fire Department reported November activity and asked the council to accept three hires, approve equipment purchases and use a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant to pay off an outstanding SCBA loan. The fire representative said, "Calls still are on a downward trend for the year," and reported 262 calls at the end of November compared with 340 at the same time last year.
Council voted to accept three new members (Christopher Fouch, John Huckaby and Kristen Detloff), approved about $6,500 in flashlight and lantern equipment purchases from budgeted funds, and authorized using $169,163.80 in FEMA AFG funds toward paying off an SCBA loan (payoff figures appear in the record as $112,141.86 and later as $112,001.41). Separately, the personnel committee recommended termination of firefighter Cade Studenbeck for 'several significant issues'; council approved the termination effective 12/09/2024 by unanimous vote.
Council minutes record the motions and approvals; staff will proceed with onboarding the new hires and implementing the equipment purchases and loan payoff as authorized.
