Board hears curriculum and program updates: iReady math resources, 'All Means All' PD and summer reading academy numbers

The Educational Programs & Policy committee reported several program updates on July 20.
Joe Maloney, director of activities and athletics, briefed the committee on Iowa House File 2591, which the committee described as changing eligibility rules to allow some eighth graders to participate in interscholastic high school extracurricular contests and increasing the transfer waiting period for 9–12 transfers to 140 calendar days. Maloney also updated trustees on the summer reading academy: "There are currently 257 students participating, and it's being held this summer at 2 sites, at Prescott and at Table Mound," the committee report said, noting 160 students use district busing and that the program includes morning literacy instruction and optional afternoon enrichment.
Executive director of elementary education Lisa Feltes described an iReady workbook resource to support students with math facts, and she and Brenda Duval, executive director of special education, outlined a new 'All Means All' initiative: a two‑day professional development clinic to help teachers work collaboratively to support both general‑education and special‑education students. The committee report said the PD contract will be paid by the district's state literacy grant and that the committee approved the contract at its July 15 meeting.
Trustees encouraged public attendance at committee meetings and noted the next Programs & Policy committee meeting is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 4:30 p.m.
