Whitpain outlines Community Center construction progress; notes soil remediation and traffic impacts

Township Manager Eric Traub reported that pre‑construction work on the Whitpain Community Center is complete and active construction is underway. Current activities include site grading, stormwater infrastructure installation, utility work, parking lot construction, foundation preparation, concrete work and underground electrical installations; Mr. Traub said residents should expect visible building work such as foundation work and an elevator shaft in the coming months.

Traub cautioned that required utility connections across DeKalb Pike will cause temporary traffic disruptions during the summer and said the Township plans to complete that work before Labor Day and restore the roadway upon completion. He also reported that organic material was found within portions of the site's fill, which required replacement and compaction improvements: "While suitable for park use, the soil required replacement and compaction improvements to support the building, which will reduce the available site‑work contingency," Traub said, adding that a future change order may be presented once final costs are determined.

Traub reviewed the facility layout—multi‑use courts, community rooms and offices on the first floor, and a walking/running track and fitness center on the second floor—and noted contractors have begun submitting monthly invoices and standard construction management and inspection processes are in place.
