Seminole County health department expands mobile screenings and diabetes support, official says

Latasha Scott, director of nursing and nurse practitioner at the Florida Department of Health in Seminole, said the county's mobile unit brings screening and testing directly to residents and helps connect people to ongoing care. "The good thing about the mobile unit is that we take the services to the client," Scott said.
Scott described services the unit provides, including screening and testing for blood pressure and glucose, hemoglobin A1c testing to identify people with diabetes, and referrals into community providers when treatment or further evaluation is needed. The department also offers the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program to teach lifestyle changes and diabetes self-management. "We also do actual hemoglobin a 1 c testing as one of the key tests for identifying someone with diabetes," Scott said.
Scott added that the department recently increased PSA blood testing during men's health outreach, funded in part by grant support, and will offer free testing for qualifying men or higher-risk individuals. She directed listeners to contact the Florida Department of Health in Seminole or visit the department website to find program lists and appointment information.
