ICfL awards $50,000 in Bucks for Books grants to 17 Idaho school libraries

State Librarian Stephanie Bailey-White told the board the Bucks for Books program, run in partnership with the Idaho Lottery Commission, received 36 applications and awarded grants to 17 schools this year, with award amounts ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 for a total of $50,000.
Talela Florko, Development Services Program Supervisor, told commissioners that when applications exceed available funding the ICfL considers the percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch, the existing school library budget, and the amount of librarian time available to carry out grant activities. Bailey-White said Lottery funding for the program has increased over time from $40,000 in earlier years.
