Chris Evans, director of Kentucky's Opioid Abatement Commission, told attendees the commission values legal aid's role in addressing housing, family and employment consequences of opioid addiction. Evans said the commission assesses grantees' capacity to sustain services and seeks to support programs that will "take root" in their communities.
Evans emphasized that funding should not be wasted on short-term efforts. He thanked Legal Services Corporation grantees for their on-the-ground work and urged collaboration between the commission and legal aid providers to ensure that grant dollars produce durable community benefits.
