Tangipahoa Parish Council voted on Oct. 14 to adopt T.P. Ordinance No. 25-29, calling a special election on April 18, 2026, to ask voters to amend the Home Rule Charter to limit council members and the Parish President to serving four consecutive four-year terms. The ordinance also includes making application to the Louisiana State Bond Commission as part of the process. The motion passed by roll call; Councilwoman Strader Cieutat recorded a Nay vote while the other members present voted Yea.
Council discussion leading up to the vote included references to legal considerations. Councilman Joseph and others supported placing the amendment before voters, and Councilman Havis later noted in Councilmen's Privileges his continued support for term limits and his view that pursuing the charter amendment was a cost-efficient way to preserve term limits.
