Staff outlines paint-repair grant funds and brief CDBG uncertainty
Summary
Staff reported the Landmarks Commission likely has $25,000 available for paint-repair grants in 2025 (plus $2,850 carried over from 2024), and cautioned about short-term uncertainty after a temporary federal order affecting CDBG funds that was later rescinded.

Commission staff reviewed the paint-repair grant program and the status of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) reimbursements.
Staff said paint-repair grants typically reimburse roughly 15% of a project's cost up to a $3,000 maximum and that the Landmarks Commission expects $25,000 for 2025 plus $2,850 in carryover from incomplete 2024 projects. "We expect to receive, $25,000 in the paint repair grant fund for 2025," staff said, while cautioning that a temporary federal order briefly halted federal grants and loans and created short-term uncertainty in reimbursement timing for county CDBG coordinators.
Staff said county contract paperwork usually completes in late February or early March after the exact CDBG award is confirmed; because of that timing, staff asked the commission to wait on allocating funds until the contract is finalized. One paint-repair grant application on the agenda did not require a COA and staff said it will be scheduled for the next agenda once funding is confirmed.
