Council denies Denton Acres Special Use Permit for 76 apartments after zoning concerns

Councilmember Brent Dodge argued the project conflicts with the Comprehensive Plan and does not meet the eight required findings under Preston Municipal Code 17.40.020 A'H for approval.
"I do not feel informed, nor comfortable making a decision in this matter," said Councilmember Terry Larson, and he abstained from the vote. The motion to deny, moved by Councilmember Brent Dodge and seconded by Councilmember Chris Larsen, passed with votes: Todd Thomas Aye, Brent Dodge Aye, Chris Larsen Aye; Terry Larson Abstain.
The council record notes the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the special use permit (4 Aye, 2 Nay, 1 Abstain), but council members emphasized consistency with the Comprehensive Plan and neighborhood compatibility in reaching the denial. The developer and planning staff may return with revised materials or additional clarifications at a later date.
