Preston City Council on Jan. 26 approved Ordinance 2026-3, repealing the existing Title 15 (Buildings) and adopting a new Title 15 that brings local rules into alignment with uniform building codes adopted by the State of Idaho. The new title references the 2018 International Building Code, the 2020 Idaho Residential Code, the 2023 National Electrical Code (with local amendments), state‑approved elevator codes, and related plumbing, mechanical and energy codes.
City Attorney Lyle Fuller described the current Title 15 as outdated and ineffective; City Building Inspector Curt Fuller said the revised codes will make inspections and building workflow more effective. The council dispensed with the three‑day reading requirement, heard the ordinance summarized, and adopted the measure by unanimous vote.
