City staff briefed residents on a Derwent Avenue sewer rehabilitation project that will clean, root-cut and re-line 20- and 30-inch trunk sewers from Bloomfield Avenue to the end of Brookside. "They're planning on starting work around August 3," said TJ Farrer.
Staff said a Boswell inspector will be on-site each day while crews work, and project staff (including Farrer and two colleagues) will also stop in regularly. Normal hours are expected to be about 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., but lining operations may force longer shifts when crews cannot stop mid-process.
A staff member said the contractor is "shooting for" about two months of active work with an optimistic end date around October, weather permitting, and that work in any single backyard should last roughly a week before crews move to the next section. Residents were told to call city staff if contractors block driveways or create other problems; staff listed direct contact options during the briefing.
The city will issue paper notices and use Alert Verona to tell homeowners when crews will be working near specific properties. The briefing closed with staff asking residents to sign up for Alert Verona for timely updates.
