Select Board adopts Winter Street parking limits after public comment

The Kennebunk Select Board adopted an amendment to Town Ordinances 2-1 Prohibited Parking concerning Winter Street on June 23. The amendment prohibits parking along the entire south side and restricts parking on parts of the north side (within 600 feet of Park Street and within 350 feet of Factory Pasture Lane). Chair Miriam Whitehouse opened the public hearing and three residents asked for more parking than the amendment proposed.
Community Development Director Christopher J. Osterrieder explained the town's rationale for the proposed restrictions, saying the plan reflected current conditions and should be revisited as experience accumulates. "This is a transition situation," Osterrieder said. After closing the hearing, the Board voted to approve the amendment by a show-of-hands vote of 6-0 with one member absent; the Board also agreed to take up Winter Street again in one year to assess traffic and parking feasibility.
