Board approves $17,500 LSIF expenditure to buy summer-reading books for every public library

The Idaho Board of Library Commissioners unanimously approved an expenditure of up to $17,500 from the Library Services Improvement Fund to purchase books for public libraries’ 2025 summer-reading programs. State Librarian Stephanie Bailey-White told commissioners the donation from the Idaho Scottish Rite Foundation is a record high for that fund and is intended to support sending titles to every public library in Idaho.
"This year’s $17,500 donation is a record high and will support purchasing books to send to every public library in the state for 2025 summer reading," Bailey-White said. Vice-Chair Janet Franklin moved the expenditure and the motion carried with all voting members in favor.
The board’s action authorizes the ICfL to implement projects outlined in Board Document 25-27 and spend up to the approved amount from LSIF. The board did not attach conditions to the expenditure, and commissioners did not request additional follow-up reporting beyond standard program implementation updates. The approval came during the meeting’s funding and LSIF consideration item.
Next steps: ICfL staff will proceed with purchasing and distributing titles for summer 2025 and report progress in routine operations updates to the board.
