The council approved a reimbursable expense of $8,157.17 to relocate DTE electrical service so the Great Dreams Church can maintain power during demolition of the adjacent building at 35128 West Michigan Avenue. City staff explained DTE did not accept responsibility for a buried supply line discovered under pavement, so the city arranged for a contractor to run a temporary feed from the demo building to the back of the church and will later place the permanent line underground.
City staff said the city will front the cost from the general fund and place the reimbursable expense on the property's tax bill so it will be collected via the Wayne County tax roll if the owner does not pay. Council moved and approved the expense by voice vote; staff said two contractors were contacted and only two responded, and because of the emergency nature of the work a competitive bid process was not practicable.
