Heritage Pines board approves $19,200 pond-algae contract with Premier Lakes

Chuck Adams, District Manager, presented the Premier Lakes, Inc. proposal for pond algae treatment and said the contract totals $19,200 a year, an overall cost saving of $3,200 compared with the current SOLitude contract. "A copper-based product is used to target algae," Adams said, and he added that the odor residents sometimes notice is from algae degasification that lasts a couple of days. On a motion by Michael Walsh and seconded by Carol Vaughan, the board voted unanimously to approve the Premier Lakes proposal.
Adams said that if the board approved the change he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination clause to end services on Nov. 30 so Premier Lakes could commence service on Dec. 1. Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude sprays into the lakes; Adams reiterated the copper-based product explanation. The approval appears intended to reduce annual treatment costs and to address resident concerns about pond treatment performance.
