Commission approves Lehi snag-and-clear drainage project after public hearing

John, a water board representative, told the commission the Lehi snag-and-clear project runs southwest toward Highway 2 over about 6.5 miles and estimated “the project is approximately $59,000 total.” The water board voted to approve the petition and the county commission then moved, seconded and approved the same action during the meeting.
Contractor Brian Johnson described the sequencing for the work: “The 1st thing we would do is put a culvert in the ground” to get initial flow and then clear downstream sections while coordinating with U.S. Fish and Wildlife and landowners. Commissioners and several nearby residents raised questions about where work would begin, whether culverts under Highway 2 would be affected, and how USDA and Fish and Wildlife easements would be handled before clearing could proceed.
County staff and the engineering consultant, Paul Buren of K.L.J. Engineering, emphasized the intent to clear existing drainage rather than alter culverts or increase flows. The commission recorded roll-call votes at both the water-board level and the county commission level and carried the motion to authorize the project.
