DDA reports record turnout at US 12 cruise; National Night Out and back-to-school events announced

Lisa Cubaney, director of marketing and events, told the Wayne City Council on July 21 that the US 12 cruise drew visitors from Ontario and multiple U.S. states and required significant public-safety coordination. "We had 13 vehicles towed, 26 citations, and 1 arrest, but that arrest was not related to our beautiful cruise," she said, and thanked the Wayne Police Department, DPW and local businesses for supporting the event.

Cubaney outlined upcoming community events and logistics: National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Atwood Park; the first 250 children will receive a T-shirt and safety items, and families will receive food coupons while supplies last. She also announced a back-to-school movie night on Friday, Aug. 21 in Goudy Park, with backpacks distributed starting at 5:00 p.m. and the film scheduled for 7:15 p.m. She asked residents to park behind the recreation center or at Franklin Middle School for National Night Out.

Cubaney thanked event sponsors including Ford Motor Company — Wayne Assembly, Wayne Fire and Police departments, IBEW Local 58 and local businesses — and asked residents to save the date for next year's cruise on July 10, 2027. Her remarks framed the events as both community-building opportunities and operations that rely on police, DPW and volunteer coordination.
