County emergency official says low-end EF-1 likely; 69 homes without power after storm

Sean Riley of the Emergency Management Agency told the commissioners that preliminary, unofficial information suggests a low-end EF-1 tornado touched down in Pierce Township and affected Ohio Township and nearby areas.
Riley said crews saw widespread tree damage and downed power lines in locations including Fagan's Run Road, Wilson Dunham Road and State Route 132, and that utility crews had been working through the night. “As of 09:12 this morning, we still have 69 homes without power. 63 of those are in Pierce Township,” Riley said. He added that building inspectors and fire department personnel were coordinating damage assessments with the state and Ohio EMA and that no significant unmet needs had been identified so far.
Riley described the county's next steps as conducting formalized damage assessments both for possible individual assistance and for public assistance eligibility, and said the National Weather Service continued its assessment to assign an official tornado rating. He cautioned that the EF rating was preliminary: “the thought process is it might be associated with a low end EF 1 tornado, but that's not official yet.”
The presentation concluded with a request that residents work with insurers for cleanup and debris removal; Riley said neighborhood volunteer efforts and chippers had reduced immediate hazards, while county staff continue to monitor outstanding unmet needs.
