Council approves including several one-time capital purchases in the draft budget

During the FY2027 budget workshop, staff and council discussed several one-time capital items the departments requested. Council instructed staff to include procurement for a street sweeper (or an economical skid-steer attachment alternative), an $8,140 hose purchase for the fire department, and the police department's rifle package in the draft budget.
John said the sweeper options ranged from $25,000 to $35,000 for used units and that a skid-steer attachment was an attractive, lower-cost alternative at around $9,000. "We just wanna be sure it's a good, strong something that's meant for everyday use," he said. On the fire hose he said the department reduced the prior ask and included attack hose to provide rotation for cleaning and drying.
Council moved and approved a motion that combined the COLA direction with authorization to proceed with procurement planning for the sweeper and hoses; staff told council the rifle package would likely be a one-time purchase and discussed funding it from fund balance if necessary.
